Pragmatic Problems ofIdiomatic Expressions Interpretation

In order to correctly make Russian translation of a book, newspaper article or any type of creating writing one shall know how to translate correctly from English to Russian idiomatic expressions.
Weshall now take a close look at some aspects ofidiomatic expressions. An important point that has to be underlined is that idiomatic expressions are not only colloquial expressions, as a lot of people think. They can emerge in formal style and in slang. They may emerge in verse or in the language of Shakespeare and the Bible.
Idioms are used widely, that is why an experienced English Russian translator is simply obliged to master certain techniques for translation of idioms from English to Russian, and for their translation from Russian to English.
What, then, is an idiomatic expression? One may say that an idiomatic expression is a collocation of phrases which, if found together, mean something unlike from the individual phrases of the idiom when they are found separately. The way in which the words are combined is in some cases weird, illogical or even grammatically incorrect. These are the individual properties of some idiomatic expressions. Other idiomatic expression are absolutely common and logical in their grammar and vocabulary. Due to the special properties of certains idioms, we shall study the idiomatic expressions as a whole and we occasionally cannot change any part of it (except perhaps, only the grammatical form of the verb).
English is very rich in idioms. Actually, it is hard to speak or write English language without using idioms. An English native speaker is very often not aware that he is using an idiom; maybe he does not even understand that an idiom which he implements is grammatically incorrect. A non-native learner makes the correct use of idiomatic English one of his main aims, and the fact that some idioms are illogical or grammatically wrong causes him trouble. Only careful study and exact learning will help.
It is impossible to be explained why a particular idiom has developed an unusual arrangement or choice of phrases. The idiom has been fixed by long usage as is often understood from the vocabulary.
